LFX-CBIG™ Big Blue High-Flow Filter Cartridges

FiltraCore Asia’s LFX-CBIG™ Big Blue high flow depth filter cartridges provide reliable bulk-sediment reduction for commercial and light-industrial water systems where stable pressure, high dirt-holding capacity and long service life are essential. Built in large-diameter 4.5 inch formats and available in 10 inch and 20 inch lengths, LFX-CBIG™ elements fit mainstream Pentair / PENTEK® Big Blue®–style housings, offering substantially lower clean differential pressure compared with standard 2.5 inch cartridges.

The series is offered in two depth-media constructions to match a broad operating envelope: LFX-CBIG-MB™ graded-density melt-blown polypropylene for municipal, groundwater, RO/EDI pretreatment and general utility water; and LFX-CBIG-SW™ string-wound polypropylene for higher-load, coarser or more viscous service. Both designs use all-polypropylene, binder-free wetted parts to ensure low extractables and wide compatibility with typical plant-utility chemistries.

Engineered as a drop-in replacement for Big Blue® sediment cartridges, LFX-CBIG™ integrates seamlessly into global 4.5 inch BB-format systems, including Pentair / Pentek® Big Blue®, Hydronix® SDC and SWC Series, Culligan® HD-950A-format housings and GE / GXWH high-flow systems, along with other compatible BB-spec housings used across commercial and industrial water systems.

LFX-CBIG™ delivers predictable ΔP behaviour, extended service life and reduced change-outs to lower total operating cost. Food-contact compliant variants (FDA 21 CFR; EU 1935/2004 & 10/2011) are available on request for regulated applications.

Technical Specifications

• Media and Construction: LFX-CBIG-MB™ uses graded-density melt-blown polypropylene depth media, thermally bonded and fully binder-free to minimise extractables and provide stable pressure behaviour throughout the service life. LFX-CBIG-SW™ uses precision-wound polypropylene yarn on a rigid polypropylene core for higher-load, coarser or more viscous particulate service; cotton, rayon or fibreglass winding materials can be supplied on request for specialised chemical or elevated-temperature applications. All wetted parts in the standard series are polypropylene for broad aqueous chemical compatibility.

• Nominal Retention Ratings: Melt-Blown (MB): 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 µm. String-Wound (SW): 0.5, 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, 75, 100, 150 µm (performance varies with yarn type and winding density).

• Nominal Lengths: 10 inch and 20 inch formats (≈254 mm and ≈508 mm), Big Blue class.

• Outside / Inside Diameter: Nominal OD ≈114 mm (4.5 inch Big Blue format); ID ≈28 mm (≈1.1 inch).

• End Style: DOE (double open end) with Big Blue-standard end gaskets.

• Elastomer Options: EPDM (standard). Silicone, NBR (Buna-N) and FKM (Viton®) available by model or specification.

• Flow Direction: Outside-to-inside depth-filtration flow path across all polypropylene depth-media configurations.

• Differential Pressure and Structural Limits: Recommended change-out at approximately 1.4–2.4 bar (clean-water reference or process-defined limit). Maximum continuous forward ΔP up to ≈2.4 bar at 25 °C.

Applications
  • Municipal and Commercial POE / Whole-Site Filtration – Bulk sediment reduction for buildings, campuses, central utility rooms, and food-service facilities using standard Big Blue–style filter housings. Ideal for improving clarity and reducing particulate load at point of entry.

  • RO and EDI Pretreatment – High-capacity particulate control upstream of RO membranes and DI/EDI units to minimise fouling, stabilise feed pressure, and extend downstream element life.

  • Food and Beverage – Bulk-water clarification in food and beverage manufacturing plants, including ingredient water, rinse water, and utility water used in bottling, brewing, fermentation, and general processing stages.

  • Manufacturing Utilities and Rinse Water – Clarification of cooling loops, rinse lines, and wash systems on plant skids; commonly used as a guard stage before finer pleated filters or membrane polishing.

  • Metal Finishing, Plating, and Parts Washing – Coarse to fine sediment reduction in make-up water and bath overflow lines to protect pumps, spray nozzles, and recirculating systems from scale, rust, and suspended solids.

  • Cooling Towers and Side-Stream Filtration – Reduction of suspended solids to improve heat-exchange efficiency, protect pumps, and help reduce blowdown frequency in commercial and light-industrial cooling systems.

  • Well Water and Groundwater Treatment – Turbidity, sand, and silt removal in commercial well systems, booster sets, and prefiltration stages for groundwater-derived supplies.

  • Electronics and General Industrial Pretreatment – Upstream sediment control prior to fine cartridge or membrane polishing.
